USL Program Wraps-Up Week One

USL Program Wraps-Up Week One

Returning for 2026, ALBION SC Colorado's USL program provides aspiring collegiate players the opportunity to train, compete, and develop at a level that prepares them to make the step from youth to collegiate to full time professionals. ALBION SC Colorado is proud to once again field teams in the USL W League, USL League 2, and USL Academy divisions. After one full week of training, all our programs look set to perform at the top pre-professional level in the country.

USL W League Season Opener

For their season opener, our USL W League traveled to Highlands Heritage Park Stadium to take on Real Colorado in a great opening contest. After a short lightning delay, the match kicked off and saw Real get off to a quick start with multiple chances quick out the gate. After goalkeeper Ava Stockard made two huge 1v1 saves, Real found their first after a quick interchange led to a confident far post finish. Coach Omar made some changes and saw the match through to 1-0 by the time of the halftime whistle with a great individual moment from Kera Nguyen finding its way just over the bar.

From halftime, as the rain opened ALBION Colorado truly began to build their way into the match consistently combining through the midfield three before splitting their way through the defense when the chances opened up. Despite one off-moment leading to a second Real goal, the group generated multiple chances and found themselves on the front foot. Bri Kozlowki came close in the 72' to pulling one back after a successful 1v1 down the right channel of the box, but the effort curled just outide the frame of the goal.

Goalkeeper Ava Stockard came up huge throughout the match with 13 saves despite treacherous conditions for a goalkeeper with heavy rain throughout the second half. With the difficult conditions, Stockard attributed the backlines engagement to staying engaged within the match despite the weather and opponent through consistent communication and organization throughout the game. She led the way in organizing the group at every stoppage to make sure heads stayed in the game and every position was working towards turning the ball back over. 'It's a really good group of girls who are all very passionate about soccer and everyone just really wants to succeed...also, the backline, I think we just really wanna keep a low goals against percentage.' Ava shared at training.

New to ALBION SC Colorado for the summer season, USL W Head Coach Omar Anderson echoed Ava's sentiment towards the attitude of the group. 'Just good cadence, good tempo. We're still figuring out each other and where some individuals nee to be because most of teh ladies are now starting to come in...but just a good start. Good moments in the game on both sides and unfortunate that we were on the opposite end of it, but again, good start'. Omar joins us from the NCAA Division I program at Grambling State University where lead the program to a 2025 SWAC championship and NCAA Tournamnet appearance.

ALBION SC Coloado's USL League 2 squad opens their campaign tomorrow away to League debutants Atletico Union out of Greeley, CO. The USL League 2 teams sees many familiar faces return, along with many new top collegiate players including national affiliate ALBION youth alumni. One of these players is former ALBION SC San Diego and current Clemson University midfield Mason Jimenez. Mason is currently competing in the USL League 2 for the first time.

I think there's a lot of quality within the group and definitely a lot of competition for sports in every place to make the squad tomorrow [May 23]. Barnes brings a wealth of experience help in aiding the group towards the next step of a professional contract. On arriving at near the same time of the squad he shared, 'They're all new faces to me, but I do know there are a number of guys that have been here over the last couple years and some who have grown up in ALBION...[I'm] very impressed by the quality we've got. I think it's a really cool group of guys. they're meshing well together and we're all on hte same so journey, so we're gonna enjoy the next few weeks'.
